The first shipment of pulp from UPM Paso de los Toros mill arrives in Qingdao, China
The M/V Saga Faith, carrying about 50,000 tonnes of UPM Euca, departed end May from UPM’s new deep sea pulp terminal in Montevideo, Uruguay, and arrived in the Xilian port of Qingdao, China, on 14th July. The shipment marks the inaugural delivery from the UPM Paso de los Toros pulp mill – the company’s largest ever investment – which commenced operations in April of this year.
Some of our key pulp customers in China together with our Pulp APAC team members celebrated this important milestone together. In collaboration with Saga Welco's team, the UPM Pulp team organised an informative vessel tour providing our customers with valuable insights into UPM's efficient, reliable and sustainable logistic network. In addition, they witnessed the unloading of the first batch of pulp from the UPM Paso de los Toros mill in central Uruguay.
UPM and Saga Welco AS are partners with a long term maritime transport agreement for the transportation of UPM Euca pulp from Uruguay to customers around the world. The M/V Saga Faith, an exceptional open hatch, box-shaped dry bulk carrier, played a pivotal role in this journey. Equipped with two travelling gantry cranes, each boasting a lifting capacity of 42 tonnes and an outreach of 9 metres, the vessel possesses a dead weight capacity of 55,807 tonnes and spans 199.9 metres in length.
Working hand in hand with our partners, UPM Pulp’s professional and dedicated team remains committed to ensuring that our customers worldwide receive our high quality products on time through our reliable supply chain. This milestone shipment signifies an important step forward in our mission to provide efficient and sustainable logistics solutions to meet the needs of our valued customers.
