UPM recognized with a CDP ‘A’ score for its sustainable forestry operations
CDP, a global non-profit organisation, has recognised UPM on a Forests A List for tackling deforestation. The company is one of a few high-performing companies out of nearly 12,000 that were scored. CDP uses a detailed and independent methodology to assess the companies.“We highly value the positioning on the Forests A List.
UPM is committed to climate positive forestry and improving biodiversity. Climate positive forestry means that our own and leased forests continue to be carbon sinks and that we always grow more than we harvest,” says Sami Lundgren, VP, UPM Responsibility.
“Many congratulations to all the companies on this year’s A List. Taking the lead on environmental transparency and action is one of the most important steps businesses can make, even more so in the year of COP26 and the IPCC’s Sixth Assessment Report. Leadership from the private sector is essential for securing global ambitions for a net-zero, nature positive and equitable world. Our A List celebrates those companies who are preparing themselves to excel in the economy of the future by taking action today,” says Paul Simpson, CEO of CDP.
CDP scores companies also for tackling climate change and taking action to ensure water security. In water UPM received A- and in Climate a score B. “UPM is committed to science-based targets and has signed two ambitious climate pledges, the UN Business Ambition for 1.5°C and The Climate Pledge by Amazon and the Global Optimism,” says Lundgren.
The full methodology and criteria for the A List is available on CDP’s website.
